Health Dialog UK Limited is incorporated in the UK in its own right making it a UK company. It is, however, a subsidiary of Health Dialog Services Corporation, Boston, USA, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bupa.
Health Dialog as a parent company is one of the largest and fastest-growing care management organisations and, to date, provides services ranging from 24/7 health coaching to chronic condition management to over 27 million people.
Health Dialog Services Corporation is founded on the principle that, when individuals are more actively engaged in managing their care with their clinicians, they are more satisfied with their outcomes: quality goes up and costs go down. This is called Shared Decision-Making and is an approach based on the work of the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making (FIMDM), a not-for-profit entity founded by Drs. John Wennberg and Albert Mulley. Health Dialog's Health Coaching materials have been developed through our work with FIMDM.
We use our precision analytics to help us identify who can benefit most from Shared Decision-Making through Health Coaching. These analytical tools help identify unwarranted variation and utilisation of healthcare services so that local health care organisations can target their resources effectively and reduce waste whilst improving quality.
The concept of unwarranted variation in healthcare (i.e., the overuse, underuse and misuse of medical care) was pioneered by Dr. John Wennberg and his colleagues at the Dartmouth Center for Evaluative Clinical Sciences. They documented wide variations in how healthcare is practiced around the country finding that most of this variation is unwarranted. Their conclusion was that if the variation could be reduced, the quality of care would go up and healthcare utilisation could in turn be reduced by as much as 30%.
